Welcome to Elite Health and Wellness!

Elite Health and Wellness is full of positive, healing energy! When you’re here, you’re among friends.

Your First Visit

The first time you visit Elite Health and Wellness, you’ll be greeted by a member of our friendly staff. Since you’ve completed your new patient paperwork at home, just a few signatures will be required when you arrive. While you take care of those important first-day introductions, your children will enjoy our kids’ play area!

Our staff will escort you to the exam room where the doctor will review yours or your child’s health history and perform an in-depth chiropractic exam.  We are determined to find the cause of your health challenges.  Once the exam is completed, our chiropractic assistant will perform three essential tests with our state-of-the-art Subluxation Station.  We utilize this cutting-edge technology to determine the functional state of your nervous system.  The tests that will be performed are as follows:

  1. Surface Electromyograph (SEMG) – The SEMG measures muscle balance and symmetry.  This test determines how much energy is going into the muscles from the brain.  Two sensors are used that lightly touch the skin along the back and neck so that the tiny nerve signals, which make muscles work, can be assessed.

The data banks know exactly how much energy the muscles along the spine should “spend” to maintain proper posture and alignment. If these signals are too strong or even too weak, the computerized program will detect and score the results. Muscles that are constantly overworked tire more easily and are an integral part of a patient’s overall sense of fatigue and exhaustion.

  2. Thermal Scan – The Thermal Scan measures the temperature along each side of the spine.  The scanner will trace the base of your spine to the top of your neck.  The body’s temperature controls are affected by pressure and tension in the spinal nerves. Researchers have found that changes in temperature along the spine are directly related to how well organs work. Measuring the subtle changes in temperature control allows us to gain an inside view of how body systems are responding to stress.
  3. Heart Rate Variability (HRV) – The HRV measures the balance between your sympathetic (fight/flight) and parasympathetic (rest/digest & growth/development) nervous systems.  When there is sympathetic dominance, it can result in a person having significant health challenges.  Your hand is placed on a sensing platform that monitors your heart rate for five minutes while you sit quietly.  This test is widely used in cardiology, exercise physiology, psychology and now chiropractic. It is a reliable and valid procedure that measures the beat-to-beat timings of your heart. This data is collected and run through computer programs to look at the way that your body handles lifestyle stress. Everything from anxiety, work and family pressures, poor diet, lack of exercise and old injuries can leave a strain on the body’s stress management systems. HRV gives an accurate reading on the amount of “reserve” you have available for keeping up with daily demands.

Athletes & Adult Patients

Our rehabilitation assistant will have you perform a Functional Movement Screen (FMS).  The FMS helps the doctors and staff detect movement imbalances, problems with movement quality and muscular weaknesses. This information helps us to develop sport-specific and patient-specific rehabilitation protocols to correct postural compensations and improve mobility, stability, balance, strength and power.

All of this valuable information will be carefully reviewed by the doctors along with your physical exam findings to provide a comprehensive analysis of your health and well-being.

Your Second Visit

Your second visit is where you get to the heart of your health. You will be greeted by a member of our friendly staff and escorted to the consultation room where you will watch a short video before your Report of Findings.

Dr. Haggerty will discuss your examination findings with you. The doctor will educate you about your results so that you understand the impact your nervous system function is having on your health and explain the role that chiropractic plays in your health and healing. Your personalized care plan will also be discussed.

Starting Care

A member of our staff will meet with you after your Report of Findings to discuss financial responsibility, payment options and appointment scheduling.

You will then start your care plan, receiving your first adjustment by the doctor and expert training on activities of daily living with our Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist® (CSCS®).  At the end of your appointment you will have your care plan scheduled and your financial arrangements in place.  It’s our goal to make your healing the focus of your visits!

Future Visits

With your plan in place, you begin the Repair and Restoration (R&R) phase of care.  Young children will receive an adjustment by the doctor each time they come in as well as a chance for some play time in our kids’ area.  Adults and athletes with corrective exercise recommendations in their care plans will receive an adjustment by the doctor and time with our CSCS in the rehabilitation area. The corrective exercise plans are customized for each patient by Dr. Haggerty based on the results of your FMS, scans and exam.

Individualized Mobility Exercises

Your rehabilitative exercise plan has a very specific process that is step wise and progression-based. The three phases of rehabilitation are mobility, stability and strength. You’ll begin with exercises to increase your mobility, or freedom of movement, and won’t progress to stability exercises until you exhibit excellent movement quality and control. You will then move on to stability and will master that phase before progressing on to strength.

Patient for Life?

Some patients come to our practice having heard that once you begin chiropractic care, you’ll need to continue it for the rest of your life. Rest assured, how long you receive care is entirely up to you. Doctors will recommend a care plan, but the decision whether to follow their recommendation is entirely yours.

We ask our patients to consider this — your teeth and your spine are both crucial to your daily living. You wouldn’t stop brushing your teeth, so why would you stop maintaining your spine? Regular chiropractic care is one of the most important things you can do to preserve your health and improve the quality of your life. Once you understand the power of chiropractic and what it can do for you, you’ll want to consider a wellness plan so you can minimize nervous system interference and help your body achieve optimal potential.
